THE VANISHING HALF by Brit Bennett
My Thoughts:
This is the first book I read in a while that made me feel a bunch of different things. Colorism is something I have always struggled with early on in my life with my father being very light and my mom being very dark. There were several things I could relate too especially when it comes to Jude.
There was so many topics this book touched on you could have so many discussions surrounding them from colorism, race, sexuality, family and so much more. So I really enjoyed that. The title relates to more than just the twin sisters and can really be applied to almost all the characters.
🏾 I loved the heart and personality of the characters; because the book jumped perspectives so much you did not get to dive very deeply into each character. I found myself wanting to know more about even the side characters like Early or Barry. There is so much more that I would have loved to know about all of them really. I wanted to dive deeper into Desiree’s character. I felt like the anticipation of the meetup between the sisters was bigger than the actual moment. I guess I expected Desiree to be a little more angry.
✍🏾Even with that thought I still would argue to say the character development and the writing is mind blowing. I finished this book last Saturday and the characters and their struggles are still with me. It is a book that made me want to read again. I loved it!
Who is your favorite character in the book and why?
